ISD Sends Letter to President Trump Requesting Seat on FEMA Council

ISD Community

The Institute for Sustainable Development has formally requested a seat on the FEMA Review Council established by executive order by the Trump Administration on January 24, 2025. In its letter to the White House, ISD emphasizes the importance of incorporating long-term U.S. community resilience into FEMA's evaluation.

ISD has been on the frontlines of developing public policy solutions that focus on short-term crisis management while also supporting the long-term reduction of threats and vulnerabilities faced by many communities the country. These include creating public-private partnerships to promote community resilience, developing model state legislation for revolving loan funds for resilient infrastructure, and advancing alternative private sector and philanthropic solutions to community development challenges. ISD is currently providing technical assistance and supporting local initiatives in western North Carolina and Los Angeles to accelerate recovery from Hurricane Helene and the January 2025 wildfires.
