Michael Gallis is widely considered one of the country’s leading experts in developing integrated multi-system approaches to strategic planning. His firm has developed a unique methodology to understand the form, structure, dynamics and relationships that are creating the future of the world, nations, states, metropolitan regions and transportation infrastructure. Through his new conceptual frameworks, Gallis has mobilized leaders across the globe to develop new ways of responding to the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.
Gallis led the team to develop the US Chamber of Commerce’s Infrastructure Performance Index. He was a consultant to the National Surface Transportation Revenue and Study Commission for developing the “Big Picture” component of the vision, which focused on the infrastructure the nation must develop to effectively compete in the global economy. His firm has completed strategic development programs for a number of institutional and infrastructure clients, regions, states and nations, including the Detroit, Cincinnati, Memphis, West Michigan, Orlando and Charlotte regions, the states of Connecticut, Rhode Island, Illinois, and New Jersey and the nations of Canada and the United States as well as the Charlotte Douglas, San Diego and San Antonio International Airports.
Gallis has served on numerous boards and commissions. He recently served on the board of American Forests, Washington DC, and has served as a member of the Governor’s Commission on a Competitive North Carolina, and the Advisory Board of the International Congress of the Atlantic Rim.
Gallis was a professor in the College of Architecture at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte from 1974 to 1997. In 1990 he was selected as the first Fellow at the Urban Institute. Gallis received a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley and two Master’s degrees in Architecture and City Planning from the University of Pennsylvania.
